MOSCOW. The volume of civilian shipbuilding orders placed with by Russia’s industrial majors could reach RUR6.5tn ($195bn, or €148bn) by 2030, President Vladimir Putin said at a recent meeting on developing the national civilian shipbuilding sector. “Preliminary estimates show that we could need 512 ships worth a total value of RUR6.5tn (around $195bn) over the period to ,2030,” he said. Big Russian companies such as Rosneft, Gazprom and Sovcomflot are in the process of putting together a solid portfolio of orders through to 2030. “These are orders for ships needed to develop offshore oil and gas fields and make active use of the Northern Sea Route,” the Russian president noted.

SOCHI. The XI International Banking Forum, Banks of Russia XXI Century, will be held in Sochi on September 4-7. It is a major gathering of Russian and foreign bankers held with the support and participation of the Russian Central Bank, the World Bank and other international organisations. The forum programme includes business events and discussions of current issues of banking practices and further development of Russia’s banking sector.
