MOSCOW. Russia will attract foreign businesses to the development of the country’s Far East, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at a meeting with the participants of the 15th General Assembly of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA).
The Russian Far East is huge territorially, Medvedev said. It accounts for approximately one-third of Russia’s total land area “but it is populated by a mere six million people out of Russia’s 140-some million inhabitants. This is why we will certainly be offering various incentives to ensure the necessary migration of skilled professionals and creation of new industries there.”
“We have joint plans in this regard with Kazakhstan, (…) and we maintain close cooperation with China and a number of other countries such as Korea, Japan, and others,” the prime minister said.
Medvedev said that it is Russian territory and the government would work to ensure decent living standards there. But considering its rich mineral resources and other opportunities, Russia will also attract foreign businesses “on the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation.” |
