MOSCOW. Russia and the European Union have coordinated a deal on the use of the OPAL pipeline running from Gazprom's Nord Stream across Germany to the Czech-German border. The agreement is expected to be signed before the end of October, writes governmental Rossiyskaya Gazeta. Gazprom is currently only allowed to use 50% of the 36 bcm (1.27 tcf) OPAL pipeline under the terms of the EU’s Third Energy Package, aimed to prevent companies that dominate supply from controlling transit networks. Russia and Germany hope to ensure that Gazprom gains full access to the pipeline.

In 2013-2017, Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom will invest RUR1.5bn ($46.4mn, or €34.8mn) in the infrastructure of Krasnokamensk, the second largest city of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Acting First Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Shemetov said. The Priargun mining and chemical plant, located in the city, produces some 90% of Russia’s uranium. The deposit's proven reserves are estimated at about 150,000 metric tons. A cooperation agreement signed between Rosatom and the Trans-Baikal Territory authorities last December envisages substantial investment in the development of Krasnokamensk. The Priargun project has been controlled by the ARMZ Uranium Holding Co (Atomredmetzoloto) since mid-2008.
