MOSCOW. The Russian Finance Ministry proposes abolishing subsidies for railway passenger transportation on routes that are longer than ,1,500 km, Vedomosti writes, quoting a draft report of the ministry.
According to the document, passengers prefer airplanes to trains for long-distance travels. So reduction of subsidies for trains will make air travels still more popular, which in turn will increase competition between airlines and make them lower ticket prices. The document will be submitted to Russian President Vladimir Putin in September. |
